...Spring Effervescent "My Mom's Favorite Season"

I think of my mother in the spring. When the cool rain settles in, warmer than frigid icicle raindrops tap-tap-tapping on our windowpane in winter. And the birds sing like angels at a sunny 8am, their crisp, quick chirps my morning pep talk. Perched in a small budding tree outside my bedroom window. My sweet second-story view.

The tepid, tremulous alliteration of it. Everything alive and unthawed. As the rain water brings new life. The new green leaves on the trees. The new purple and pink petals on the flowers. And one blissful, giant carpet is unveiled. Hello, new fluorescent green grass forecasting summer.

"What's your favorite season?" I once asked her. Without hesitation, she said, "Spring." I instantly knew why. The mood of spring is "Dutch." Chilly and rainy, but beautifully colorful and sunny, too. A wonderful in-between world of reality and fairy tale. Yes, that magical place where my Mom grew up. With tulips and wooden shoes. This season that brings her HOME.

This post is dedicated to my Mom, born and raised in "the fairy tale called Holland" until the age of twenty. Eternal LOVE.
